Landed, but still flying in mind...

Late last night we had a great meeting with our partner. We talked for a couple of hours and he supplied us with a lot of equipment. As time progressed, we realized that we were actually leaving, and it was soon... At the same time, we also got it reconfirmed how relevant, important, meaningful and risktaking our task is. We send our biggest hugs to the Start-up company group for not only hosting us for the night, but also for the meeting and carrying all our crap (and that is a lot) two floors up.

Speaking about the stuff we are bringing. The amount of clothes for two weeks on Borneo is about the same for a weekend at home. So we are gonna be so fresh after two weeks, luckily we will all stay faithfull regardless.

So we are now in KL!!! A lot of firsts have taken place: first evaluation on the train to Copenhagen, first time sleeping together (don´t try to twist our words here...), first time in Asia for some, first miscommunication in the group. The misunderstanding resulted in that we are one sleeping layer short, but we borrowed blankets and pillows from Malaysian airlines. By the way, we love Malaysian airlines.

We started collecting quotes:
-"SOMETIMES sleep is soooo necesary" -Løken (we are thinking you might have had to be there to find it funny)
-Check-in lady at Kastrup: "Such an international group". Bieke replies "yeah, we are one big joke" (refering to classical Swedish Bellman jokes)
-"I am sooooo bored, even animal movies can´t turn me on" -our beloved Johannes
-"God and the world around you loves you exactly the way you are, as long as you change in accordance with it" -Sara inspired by her reading.

We have learnt that the boys have very little sense of time. Luckily we are going to a place where time does not really matter - if it even exists at all. Oh yeah and we are also doing the ´we have no place to stay to night´thing.

This is it for the next ten days. Until then, take care and enjoy!
Love,

Flying high

Mayproject2007, crazy creative name…NOT. The reason for it is that we made the blog for the project before we knew what the project was about. When the blog was created we were actually supposed to go to Brazil and the Amazonas. Now the trip is heading towards Borneo, Mulu and Mili. This trip is more fixed than the Brazil one, we are leaving and everything is done for thursday! So our blog's new name can be something like Borneo Baby!
This example illustrates how we have been building the plane while we were flying. We are a living organism, and damn are we breathing. We are on a crazy roll!

Practice what you preach...

Yesterday Christian Löken started reflecting on sustainabiity and how far we should practice it. If we want to act 100% sustainable then we cannot fullfill our project. Because in the end, the four of us flying to either Brazil or Malaysia will result in cardon dioxide emissions which equal a cost of 1450 danish kroner of trees (calculated using the "emission calculator on www.dn.se/kollaresan) in order to equalize the effect on the environment and global warming.

Although we already were aware of this, we felt demotivated. So we started doing an informal SWOT analysis regarding our project in relation to the effect on the environment. From this we realized that the outcome of our project will have greater positive effects than the negative ones on the environment. Furtermore, we would off course like to pay back the 1450 kr which our flight cost the environment. We thought we could do this by planting trees when we return to Århus.

This idea then developed into a marketing idea where we could sell the trees' leaves to companies. We see this as a win-win-win, since the company is then seen as sociala reponsible as they are taking action towards the effects on the environment, we get the money for our project, and the environment wins. A fifth solution in other words!

Regardless if we end up selling "leaves" or other sponsor-products, we see it as a great solution to obtain the necessary funds for our project.

In short, when Christian reflected about our own behavior and mindset resulted in a great marketing idea which agrees with our values and mindset!
